Roofing maintenance is something that should be done by either the homeowner or by a roofing contractor at least once a year. The National Roofing Contractor’s Association actually states that homeowners should have their roofs inspected twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. A visual inspection is something that a homeowner can easily do. We will list several roof maintenance tips that, if done properly, can extend the life of your roof.
If the homeowner decides that he or she can perform an annual roofing inspection, below are some critical areas that should be taken into consideration:
- Look for discolored shingles.
- Look for missing or warped shingles.
- Examine pipe flashing.
- Examine chimney flashing.
Additionally to an annual roofing inspection, the homeowner should:
- Clean your gutters twice a year.
- Check attic for possible leaks.
- Clean and branches or debris that are on the roof.
